Valencia 4 - 0 Granada La Liga 27th April 2015

There has been much talk recently about the need for the strikers to start getting a few more goals and tonight partly answered the question.
The game started similar to recent games for Valencia with a patchy start and it was taking a while for them to find any sort of rhythm. This was partly due to their lack of ideas but mainly due to Granada getting players behind the ball in large numbers.  The deadlock, however was broken in the 25th  minute when a corner on the right was taken by Parejo and his deep cross found Javi Fuego rise through a bunch of players to put the home side in front.  This should have been the signal for Valencia to go an and crush Granada but they were still finding chances hard to come by.  However just before the half time whistle Barragan broke through on the right but his run was blocked in the penalty area.  The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot to give Valencia the opportunity to increase their lead. Parejo had said before the game that in the event of us getting a penalty he would have no hesitation of stepping forward.  True to his word he stepped forward and fired the ball to the keepers right to banish last weeks miss at the Camp Nou.
No changes at half time but Valencia were looking a little more composed with the two goal cushion.
Andre Gomes was replaced at 63 minutes by Enzo Perez presumably to rest him for the upcoming games. Perez soon showed why he is so highly rated playing in a more forward attacking roll and looking very lively. Then it was the time for the lacklustre Rodrigo to be replaced by De Paul, who was soon looking lively on the left side. Negredo replaced Alcacer on the 69th minute.  Valencia were slowing the pace now naturally with important games coming up and just when we thought we were going to have to accept the 2.0 Negredo slipped a great ball through to Feghouli to blast the ball into the net to make it 3.0. Negredo may have been criticised for not scoring enough but giving passes like these to others proves his worth to the team.  Just to round off a great night for him and Valencia.  In the 89th minute  De Paul floated over a pinpoint cross for Negredo to power a header past the keeper to round off a very successful evening to put us back to fourth place and keep us on track for Champions League. It was good to see Negredo celebrating his goal by running and sliding across the pitch on his knees. It was more of joy than relief and seems to be back on top form.

Player Ratings

Alves  7.0  Always difficult to rate him in these type of games when he spent most of the game watching and was barely needed.
Barragan  7.0  Has never been my favourite player but showed again tonight why Nuno has kept faith in him and kept and left Cancelo on the bench. did well to win the penalty.
Mustafi 7.5  What can you say about him, he is just so boringly good and efficient and again hardly put a foot wrong.
Otamendi 7.5   Just like Mustafi seems to get better every game and made some great challenges. He is such an important part of the team and the future of V.C.F.
Gaya 7.5   Good to see him back, had some great runs and always looked confident in his defensive duties.
Fuego 7.0  Had another good game and crowned an effective performance with an important goal. Always reliable without being outstanding.
Gomes 7.5  He ran the game from midfield together with Parejo and answered early season doubts about whether the two could play together.
Parejo 7.5  Forming a great midfield partnership with Gomes now and took his penalty well. Was unlucky with a good glancing header in the first half.
Feghouli  8.0  I am going to give him top marks for his efforts, his great runs, his work rate right up to the final whistle and of course his great goal.
Rodrigo 5.5  To me the disappointment of the night. From the first whistle nothing seemed to go right for him and should have crossed instead of shooting from a wide angle when given the opportunity. Has to improve a lot or will see De Paul take his place.
Alcacer 6.5  For all his work rate was largely ineffective tonight. Partly due to lack of service to him from midfield but great goalscorers are expected to make their own goals and it just isn't happening.

Perez 7.0  Looked really good when he came on and must surely be a starter again soon
De Paul 6.5  Showed again tonight that he is a very strong and skillful player, set up the 4th goal
Negredo 7.5  Only on for a short time but made a great pass for Feghouli to score and capped a great night by getting one himself.  I predict the goals and assists will now be more regular and could be the key to our future next season.
