New Goalkeeper Signed

Mathew Ryan

Valencia today signed our new goalkeeper Mathew Ryan from Club Bruge of Belgium  aged 23yrs he is the Australia national goalkeeper.  He represented Australia in the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Asian Cup where his country won and he was voted best keeper, which can't be bad.  He succeeded Mark Schwarzer which again has to be a big plus.  He moved to Club Bruge from Central Coast Mariners, Australia in May 2013 and has been voted best keeper in Belgium for the last 2 years.  He is not the tallest of keepers at 1.84  compared to Diego Alves at 1.88 but is a very muscular guy and very agile.  So at long last the keeper situation is sorted but I guess we now have to see whether Jaume or Yoel is his backup keeper.  I personally think it is a good signing but of course only time will tell.  It is of course too early to judge the guy but I would say welcome to Valencia and good luck. Also as a matter of interest he is the first Australian to play La Liga since John Aloisi of Osasuna in 2006.

  1. As an aussie valencia fan I am super exited by this. It is definately a good investment. Ryan does all the important stuff really well and is one of the best users by foot of keepers around. He has balls of steel and will often hold onto the ball right until the chasing striker reaches him without breaking a sweat. He has done Australia proud and im sure will do so for Valencia
