RCD Espanyol vs Valencia CF Match Preview
Stadium: Estadi Cornellà-El Prat
Date: 13.01.2015, 20:00 CET
Round of 16, second leg, Copa del Rey
Coaches: Sergio González and Nuno Santo

The second leg of the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey is upon us and Valencia CF is coming in with a 2-1 advantage over RCD Espanyol in what was a hard first leg match, one which Valencia CF barely won thanks to a late second half penalty.

Valencia CF had since had their win small win streak ruined thanks to a 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo in the Spanish league and the team has looked vulnerable after since the Real Madrid win. Against RCD Espanyol the team will need to show character and be determined more than ever to win if they are to go through to the next round in the cup. Espanyol have shown that they are a dangerous opponent who are capable of winning and they won't make it easy on home terrain playing in front of their crowd.

Valencia CF is coming in with a very small advantage from the home game, so there is no option for mistakes, the defending will have to be at superb levels, keep a clean sheet and then use our chances when the opportunity arrives.

RCD Espanyol just lost 3-0 to Real Madrid so they will be frustrated by such a big loss, especially since Real Madrid were wounded in a manner of speaking after their two defeats at the hands of Valencia CF and Atletico Madrid. Never the less Espanyol are still 10th place on the table with 20 points, so they haven't lost ground to their opponents, but I think any big loss is a bit demoralizing.

Nuno Espirito Santo just extended his contract with Valencia CF to 2018, so he can relax a little bit in terms of securing his short term future and hopefully he can celebrate by leading the team to victory against Espanyol in the Copa del Rey.

Most of the players are available, except obviously for the injured Piatti and for the first time we won't be seeing Carles Gil in the squad at these cup games, since he's been sold to Aston Villa for 5 million euros. Moreno is also not in the squad, while as everyone already knows Feghouli is with his national team for the African cup.

Valencia CF Squad:
Goalkeepers: Alves, Yoel
Defenders: Barragan, Cancelo, Vezo, Mustafi, Otamendi, Gaya, Orban
Midfielders: Fuego, Felipe, Parejo, Enzo, Gomes, Felipe, Roberto, De Paul
Forwards: Negredo, Paco

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-3-3
Line-up: Yoel; Barragan, Mustafi, Otamendi, Orban; Fuego, Enzo, Gomes; Paco, Negredo, Gaya.
Tactics: Medium defensive line, own third pressure, mix passing, deep laying defensive midfielder, counter attacks.

Match Result:
RCD Espanyol 1-1 Valencia CF
I think its going to be a draw, with Valencia CF moving forward due to the win at home. I mean RCD Espanyol aren't in the best of form and they just lost 3-0 to Real Madrid, while Valencia CF have also not been in great form either, so I can see either a goalless draw or a 1-1 draw.
